We enter the world as babies, and leave as grown adults (or at least in most cases.) Hopefully, by the time we do leave this world we have done something good for the world and left our trace. We should make take advantage of the time we do have and make the most of it. We all die in a physical sense, but I believe that we are not truly dead until we are forgotten.

When it comes to what I really need from my parents I feel that I just really need for them to listen to my point of view, in things and really take that into consideration instead of just doing what they think is right for me. I know that they do what they do with the best of intentions, but I think that they should still let me have a say in the decisions they make that in the long run will only be affecting me. I also need for them to support me more in the things that I really want to pursue. At times they may just tell me that I shouldn’t do something because they just don’t see me doing that. I still feel that if it is something that I really like and enjoy doing then I feel that they should support me, even if it’s not necessarily what they want for me. As I said before I do understand that they just want what is best for me, but I do feel they should also let me pursue what I want to. As long as it doesn’t bring harm to me or anyone else and it isn’t something that is wrong then I feel it should be fine. But I still do love them and appreciate all the things that they do for me.

Through projects and assignments in the past I have already learned a variety of things about my culture, but I would like to go more in depth about the things that I already know. I would like to learn more about influential people around he world that come from the same culture that I do. I already know some information about a very influential woman named Rigoberta Menchu. She has worked toward the rights of the indigenous people of Guatemla. She has even earned a noble peace prize. I would still like to learn more about her as well as others. Those people who have contributed something good to the world: people whom have worked towards peace and those whom have used their god given talents in the fields of literature, art, and music. I’d like to know why they do what they do; what is it that makes all their hard work worth while. If I could I would want to find out how they got into doing that which they do. One other thing which I would love to gain knowledge of would be the history of
Guatemala. I would want to know what happened so that it is the way it is. I strongly feel that in order to understand the present I need to know the past. I would want to learn about the birth of this country and the significance and reason of many festivals and traditions that are still celebrated as they have been for hundreds of years. There are many historical monuments that have been around for thousands of years since before the country was even around. So I would really want to know who made these and why they felt it was so important.

Success, in my opinion, means having had set goals for yourself and despite all the obstacles you still achieve it. You give it your all and try your best so when you achieve that which you wanted, it means even more. I think that having an education, a stable job, health, and ect. does mean success, but if you are not happy or satisfied with your life then that means nothing. If you have all the money in the world but still are miserable, then what does that really mean? There will always be things that will make you upset, but if at the end of the day you can truly say that you are happy, then i think that really defines whether you are successful or not.

In this box I would put items which represent the food, clothing, and traditions of Guatemala. To represent food I would put in the recipe for my mom’s tamales. She makes them in a distinct way then they are usually made. We make and eat a big batch of them every Christmas. To represent clothing I would put in a refajos and a huipil. A refajos is a skirt and a huipil is a blouse. These are the traditional clothing of the indigenous people of Guatemala. They are very colorful and have beautiful woven designs. Finally I would also put in a video of a traditional Quinceañera. A Quinceañera is a celebration done when a girl reaches fifteen. It is supposed to celebrate the change from a girl into a young lady. It is much like a sweet sixteen, except it isn’t just a party. There is first a mass and then a party. It is also only celebrated by Hispanics and is supposed to be done in Spanish, though many don’t. I would probably put a video of my older sister’s. I think that wit this i would be able to show a glimpse of what my culture is about.

This Supreme Court case has to deal with the 14th amendment which protects the rights of all citizens. Anthony Ash and John Hithon sued Tyson food Inc. because they felt that they were being discriminated against. Tyson Foods is a poulty plant and Ash and Hithon were superintendents at the time that they applied for manager positions. They weren’t chosen for the job, but two other Anglo-Saxon (or Caucasian) men were. Ash and Hithon argue that they should’ve gotten the job but that the only reason for them not being chosen for the jobs was because of their race. They felt they were being discriminated against. In this case, Ash and Hithon said that they had proof that they were far better qualified for the position, yet the other two men were only hired because they were Caucasian. They also mentioned that they were called “boy’ by their former boss. This may seem like nothing, but in fact this term has been known to be used to demean and belittle those of their race. In the end the court ruled in favor of Tyson Food Inc. because they said that they did not have enough evidence to show that they were being discriminated against. They say that many variables could’ve led to the company’s decision to hire the two other men. They also don’t have evidence that their boss called them boy in a wrong way or that he even said that at all. Jhosselinne -In my opinion the court should’ve ruled in favor of Anthony Ash and John Hithon. If they were far better qualified then why wouldn’t they have gotten hired? There is no reason for them to hire someone when they could hire someone which would most likely perform their job better. They also had some evidence to even further prove their point. They were called by a name which was used long ago when slavery was still allowed and even encouraged; when African American’s were treated with no respect and treated as if they were just farm animals off for auction.

Cristian- In my opinion i think that the americans should have the right to win the case becuse maybe they were more skillful in cooking than the afroamerican. The case should go at a a close case and let the white win. But i think that there is more proof of the americans insted of the afroamericans. There was also any conduct of racism getting invole in the case there were never treating the afroamericans as animals. The case should be infavor of the americans. I think that the case should have agreat decision of the americans.

My experience with this project was not exactly what I expected. I thought I would really enjoy it at first, but after a while my excitement slowly faded due to struggles that I was forced to face. I definitely thought that it would be easier than it was. My group had many technical difficulties, so we had trouble communicating with each other. Besides that it was something that I will definitely remember because it was definitely something I had never had the chance to do so before. I would have enjoyed the experience a lot more if those problems wouldn’t have occurred but it taught me that you have to be ready for anything, because you never know what may occur. I also learned that when dealing with other people, especially when it is through the internet, you have to be very patient because just about anything can and may go wrong. If I could have done this over again I would have tried to manage my time more and when our group first got together we should have had set time dates for every single meeting we would have. Even though we tried to set our meetings at similar times every day we should have had specific times. I enjoyed it but I wish that we would have had better communication because I think it would have made all the difference.

For these chapters the only word that I had left was fear, but I didn’t want to use this word. So I decided to use the word friendship. I decided to choose this word for chapters 11 and 12 because their friendship is what got them through everything that hit them. They had to deal with things like death, but the gang was able to move on by helping each other or in other words their friendship. They all stuck together through thick and thin. They did this because they cared about eachother. They were like peas in a pod.

Friendship- I feel that this chapter is all about friendship. Friendship is demonstrated by all the members of the gang and a few other people like Cherry and Randy. He gang members showed their friendship by going to visit Johnny and Dally in the hospital and by being so concerned for them and Ponyboy. Cherry and Randy showed the friendship they had with Bob, the soc that was killed, by mourning his loss and they even both told Ponyboy how good a guy he was, that is when he wasn’t under the influence. They said that drinking made him a completely different person and that they really missed him. They all showed concern and love for one another’s well being, and in my mind that is what friendship is all about. It’s about being there for one another and just enjoying one another’s company. So I feel that this is the best word to describe these chapters.
